Guadalupe Valdez, a 26-year-old male of Hispanic ethnicity, tragically lost his life on June 30, 2021, in Wichita Falls, Texas. Valdez was found suffering from multiple gunshot wounds in the street near Avenue L and Taylor Street. Despite the efforts of officers and EMTs to render first aid, he was pronounced dead at the scene. An autopsy later confirmed that the cause of death was multiple gunshot wounds, and the manner of death was ruled as homicide.
The investigation into Valdez's death led to the arrest of Ramon Rubio, also known as "Looney," who was identified as the primary suspect. According to witness statements and surveillance evidence, Rubio was involved in a heated argument with Valdez before shooting him multiple times. Rubio was arrested on July 24, 2021, thanks to a tip from Crime Stoppers and was charged with murder. Additionally, Rubio faced a felony warrant for Assault/Family Violence-Choking.
The case against Rubio included corroborating statements from multiple witnesses, video surveillance footage, and phone records. Rubio's bond for the murder charge was set at $1 million, while the bond for the assault charge was set at $150,000. The investigation remains ongoing, and authorities continue to seek any additional information that could aid in the prosecution of Rubio.
This tragic incident marked the sixth homicide in Wichita Falls in 2021, highlighting the ongoing challenges faced by the community in addressing violent crime.
