Donyavia Franshun Lagway, a 29-year-old African American woman from Houston, Texas, tragically lost her life on June 30, 2021. She was killed in her apartment along with her 6-year-old daughter, Harmony Carhee, and her husband, Gregory Carhee. The couple's 10-year-old daughter survived the attack by playing dead and later called for help using FaceTime.
The suspect, Xavier Davis, 28, was arrested and charged with three counts of capital murder and one count of aggravated assault with a
deadly weapon. Davis allegedly entered the apartment, shot the family members in the head, and threw the 1-year-old baby brother of the 10-year-old girl before fleeing the scene. The 10-year-old girl was critically wounded but managed to survive.
In addition to Davis, Alexus Chenelle Williams, 29, was charged with three counts of capital murder in connection with the killings. Prosecutors believe Williams hired Davis to carry out the murders because she was having an affair with Lagway and wanted to end it. Williams allegedly watched the murders unfold via FaceTime and attended the family's funeral before being arrested.
The case has drawn significant attention due to the bravery of the surviving 10-year-old girl and the tragic loss of a young family. The investigation revealed a complex web of relationships and motives, leading to the arrests and charges against both Davis and Williams.
The Lagway family has received an outpouring of support from the community, and the case continues to be a focal point of law enforcement efforts in Houston.
