Curtis Kador Sr., a 63-year-old African American man from Marshall, Texas, tragically lost his life on November 23, 2021. He was a retired supervisor from the City of Marshall and a resident of the area since attending Wiley College on a basketball scholarship in 1976. Curtis was well-known and respected in his community.
On the day of his death, Curtis was one of three victims shot at the intersection of Cross Street and Circle Drive in Marshall.
The incident occurred around 11:30 a.m., and Curtis was pronounced dead at the scene by Marshall Fire and EMS. The other two victims were transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The Marshall Police Department swiftly responded to the scene and detained a suspect, Stoney Deshun Irving, who was found at the scene. Irving was later arrested and charged with one count of 1st-degree murder for Curtis's death. The case is still under investigation, and the police continue to gather evidence to build a strong case against the suspect.
The community has been deeply affected by Curtis's death, and his family and friends have expressed their grief and sorrow. Curtis is survived by his mother, Nellie Joan Kador, his sons Curtis Kador Jr. and Christopher Kador Sr., and several other family members. His funeral services were held at Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, with Masonic and Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity rites following.
