Sherman Payton, a 40-year-old Black man, was fatally shot on January 4, 2022, in Houston, Texas. He was walking along Fairgreen Lane when a silver Lexus SUV pulled up beside him and the driver fired multiple shots, striking him fatally. The suspect, described as a light-skinned Black male with facial hair, then fled the scene in the vehicle. At the time of his death, Payton was on his way to pick up medicine for his elderly mother, who he lived with and cared for.
