Efren Quiroz Jr., a 35-year-old Hispanic male, was tragically shot and killed on March 5, 2022, in Donna, Texas. The incident occurred at a Stripes convenience store located off Expressway 83 and Val Verde Road. The suspect, Fidencio Castillo, a 38-year-old male, is believed to have shot Efren Quiroz Jr. outside the store. The motive behind the shooting remains unclear, but it is suspected that Castillo's mother had a relationship with Quiroz, which may have prompted the murder.
Following the incident, Donna police, in conjunction with the San Juan Law Enforcement Emergency Regional Response Team SWAT team, executed an evidentiary search warrant at a home in the 400 block of Ellen Avenue. They were searching for the truck and gun belonging to Castillo, but neither the vehicle nor the weapon was found. Castillo remains at large, and an arrest warrant has been issued for him on a murder charge. Authorities believe he may have fled to Mexico.
The case remains unsolved, and Donna police are working with the U.S. Marshals in the hunt for Castillo.
