Juanita Elena Rodriguez, a 54-year-old Hispanic woman from Duncanville, Texas, was reported missing by her family on April 16, 2022. Her disappearance was initially considered voluntary, but new details from her family led to her being classified as a missing person. Rodriguez's vehicle was found abandoned on Navy Avenue in West Dallas on April 18, 2022.
Two days later, on April 20, 2022, her body was discovered wrapped in a plastic tarp on the side of South Ledbetter Drive in Dallas.
The medical examiner determined that Rodriguez died from a gunshot wound. Dallas police arrested Clinton Jones, also known as Clinton Smith, a 65-year-old man and a long-time friend of Rodriguez, on April 22, 2022, charging him with her murder. A second arrest was made on April 29, 2022, when Gloria Flores, a 53-year-old woman, was charged with Rodriguez's murder. Both suspects were reportedly helping Rodriguez's family search for her while she was missing.
The investigation revealed that Rodriguez was renting a room from Smith, and her ex-boyfriend, Jones, had filed the missing persons report. Surveillance footage showed Jones near Rodriguez's vehicle on the day she went missing. Detectives found clothes matching those worn by Jones in the footage and a revolver at his home. Jones admitted to being the man in the surveillance photos but could not explain his presence at the scene. Flores was found to have been with Jones before, during, and after Rodriguez's disappearance.
The case remains under investigation, and the family continues to seek justice for Rodriguez. Her sister, Lucia Martinez, expressed the family's grief and disbelief over the tragic loss. Rodriguez's body was later returned to her hometown of McAllen for burial.
The circumstances surrounding Rodriguez's death have raised many questions, and the community remains hopeful for answers and justice.
