On July 20, 2022, 28-year-old Rony Alfredo Mateo-Comapa, a male of Hispanic ethnicity, was fatally shot while pumping gas at a Texaco gas station on the 500 block of West Oltorf Street in South Austin, Texas. Mateo-Comapa was an innocent bystander caught in the crossfire of a criminal gang activity earlier that evening. The suspects, who were involved in a drive-by shooting, approached Mateo-Comapa and shot him multiple times before fleeing the scene in both the car they arrived in and Mateo-Comapa's stolen Toyota Corolla.
Following an extensive investigation, the Austin Police Department arrested five teenagers in connection with Mateo-Comapa's murder.
