Omar Ursin, a 37-year-old African American male, was tragically killed on August 28, 2022, in Humble, Texas. Ursin, who served as a Deputy Constable for Harris County Precinct 3, was off duty at the time of his death. He was driving home after picking up food for his family when he was shot. The incident occurred around 6:30 p.m. on Madera Run Parkway. Witnesses reported seeing a dark-colored, newer model four-door sedan with tinted windows driving next to Ursin's vehicle.
Someone in the suspect's vehicle shot into Ursin's car, causing it to crash into a tree in the median of the road. Ursin was found with at least one gunshot wound and was transported to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The investigation into Ursin's death led to the arrest of three suspects. Douglas Wooten, Ahsim Taylor Jr., and Jayland Womack were charged with murder in connection with the shooting. Wooten, who was identified as the shooter, was arrested in St. Paul, Minnesota, on November 27, 2022. According to court documents, Wooten claimed that Ursin had pointed a gun at him and others in the car, but Ursin's weapon was found holstered. Taylor and Womack were charged in September 2022. Both men were out on bond for previous murder charges at the time of Ursin's death. Taylor had been charged with capital murder and tampering with evidence, while Womack had been charged with murder in a separate case.
