Anthony Clay Ayers, a 15-year-old male of Hispanic ethnicity, tragically passed away on October 29, 2022, in College Station, TX. He was known for his love of sports, music, and his caring nature. Ayers was involved in a fight at The Pearl Apartments, where he was shot by 28-year-old Trevor Thompson Jr. Both Ayers and Thompson were found to be carrying weapons during the altercation.
Following the incident, Thompson was arrested on November 2, 2022, and later entered a guilty plea.
The investigation revealed that phone calls and text messages were exchanged between Thompson and Ayers just before the fight. The weapon used in the shooting was found at Thompson's brother's home, and additional evidence was discovered at another residence connected to Thompson.
In August 2024, Thompson was sentenced to 40 years in prison for the murder of Ayers. The victim's family was consulted prior to the plea agreement and agreed with the terms. Assistant District Attorneys Kara Comte and Abigail Goodman, along with Victims Assistance Coordinator Melissa Carter and Investigator Dennis Thane, represented the State of Texas in this case.
Anthony Ayers' life was taken from him too soon, and the community continues to mourn his loss. The swift resolution and arrest in this case were credited to the diligent work of the College Station Police Department.
