Deputy Sheriff James A. Lovelace, age 24, was accidentally shot and killed on July 18, 1982, in Lawrenceburg, Tennessee. Lovelace was a young male officer with the Lawrence County Sheriff's Department. The tragic incident occurred during a departmental training exercise. Lovelace and another deputy were practicing a disarming technique when the firearm unexpectedly discharged, striking Lovelace in the chest.
