Corie Jay Williams, a 37-year-old African American man, passed away on Thursday, May 28, 2020, in Lawrenceburg, Tennessee. Born on June 21, 1982, in Trenton, New Jersey, he had relocated to Lawrenceburg to be closer to his mother. Known for his compassion and love for others, he was a father who enjoyed spending his time fishing, gardening, and being near the water. He was also an active and positive influence in the local youth community, often taking the time to teach them about life and basketball.
His life was cut short in a tragic act of violence. Williams was one of two victims in a double homicide that occurred at the Lawrence Landing Apartments. He and another man, 28-year-old Benjamin A. Cunningham, were both fatally shot. The incident prompted a thorough investigation by the Lawrenceburg Police Department.
The investigation led to the arrest of Sabastian Arzadon, who was 23 years old at the time. In connection with the deaths of both Williams and Cunningham, Arzadon faced legal proceedings. He ultimately pleaded guilty to two counts of first-degree murder. As a result of his plea, Arzadon was sentenced to Life Without the Possibility of Parole, as well as a concurrent sentence of Life With the Possibility of Parole.
In addition to Arzadon, a second individual, Reneisha L. Wiley, who was 27, was also implicated in the case. Reports indicated that she was facing charges in connection with the double homicide.
