On the Fourth of July in 2015, a day typically marked by celebration, 28-year-old Joshua Fox’s life was tragically cut short in a North Knoxville, Tennessee home. Inside the residence located on Atlantic Avenue, Fox was in a back bedroom when he sustained a single, fatal gunshot wound to his chest. The stillness of the holiday was shattered by the sound of that lone shot, forever altering the lives of those present.
Witnesses at the scene recounted hearing an argument between Fox and
his ex-girlfriend, Catalina Davila, 36, just moments before the gunshot. In the immediate aftermath, Davila was seen leaving the bedroom while holding a silver handgun. The investigation that followed would uncover threatening statements Davila had made towards Fox on social media in the days leading up to the fatal encounter, painting a grim picture of the events that culminated in violence.
The legal process moved forward, and Catalina Davila was held accountable for her actions. In a plea agreement, she pleaded guilty to the charge of second-degree murder. The court sentenced her to serve twenty years in the Tennessee Department of Correction for the killing of her former boyfriend.
