On the morning of January 28, 2017, 26-year-old Black male Jarel Mays was driving along an interstate in St. Louis, Missouri, when his life was abruptly ended by gunfire. The incident occurred on the exit ramp of Interstate 44 near downtown St. Louis, a busy corridor that became the scene of a homicide investigation.
