Kenneth Spalter, a 72-year-old visiting St. Louis, was shot and killed on February 10, 2017, during an attempted carjacking in the Tower Grove South neighborhood. Spalter was in town to visit his new grandchild when he was approached by a 16-year-old suspect, Richard Donaldson, who tried to steal a backpack containing an iPad.
