In Memphis, Tennessee, a dispute between two men on a late March day in 2017 ended in the tragic deaths of both individuals. James Sumlin, a 52-year-old African American male, was involved in a heated altercation with 62-year-old Artis Mitchell on March 25, 2017. The disagreement escalated to a violent confrontation in a residential area, culminating in an exchange of gunfire.
When police arrived at the scene on West Peebles Road, they found both Sumlin and Mitchell had sustained fatal
gunshot wounds. Both men succumbed to their injuries at the location of the incident. The Memphis Police Department launched an investigation into the double shooting.
