On a late September evening in Memphis, Tennessee, the life of 15-year-old Keiangelo Wright was tragically cut short. The Black male teenager was fatally wounded by gunfire on September 30, 2017. A student at Booker T. Washington High School, his sudden death left his family and community in mourning.
In the aftermath of the shooting, investigators began the work of piecing together the events that led to the young man's death.
Their efforts eventually led to the identification of a suspect. Martavious Baugh was arrested and subsequently charged in connection with the fatal shooting. Baugh faced a charge of first-degree murder in the death of Keiangelo Wright.
The legal process that followed saw Martavious Baugh stand trial for the murder of the teenager. After hearing the evidence presented by both the prosecution and the defense, a jury found Baugh guilty of the lesser charge of reckless homicide. For his role in the death of Keiangelo Wright, Martavious Baugh was sentenced to serve four years in prison.
