In the spring of 2017, a burst of violence on a Nashville street cut short the life of 19-year-old Joseph De'Angelo Hull. On the evening of April 29, Hull was reportedly sitting on a sidewalk on 16th Avenue North, just outside his girlfriend's car, when a single gunshot suddenly rang out. The bullet struck him in the groin, inflicting a fatal wound.
Emergency services arrived to find the young man gravely injured, and they administered first aid at the scene before rushing him to Vanderbilt University Medical Center. Despite their efforts, Hull succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead shortly after his arrival.
The investigation into the shooting was handled by the Metro Nashville Police Department. Through the work of North Precinct detectives, a suspect was identified. Information developed during the investigation led to the issuance of a criminal homicide warrant for the arrest of a man named Miller. Acting on this information, officers located the suspect hiding under some clothing in his mother's bedroom and took him into custody. At the time of the arrest, the motive for the shooting remained under investigation, leaving a community to grapple with the sudden and tragic loss of a young man.
