A well-known citizen journalist in his community, 26-year-old Cameron Wilson, a father of four, was fatally shot in St. Louis on Father's Day, June 18, 2017. On his way home after documenting a shooting in north St. Louis, Wilson was involved in a vehicle crash. The situation escalated into an argument, culminating in gunfire.
Emergency services were called to the scene, but Wilson was pronounced dead there.
A 30-year-old man who was also involved in the altercation was transported to a local hospital for treatment. In the immediate aftermath, police had not made any arrests in connection with the shooting, and the investigation was ongoing.
Wilson was remembered by his family as a talented and dedicated individual who wanted to show people what was happening in their city. His aunt remarked that he was always present at important events. He leaves behind four children, who at the time of his death ranged in age from ten months to eleven years old. His grieving family expressed a desire for an end to violence in their community.
