On August 11, 2007, a Caucasian male named Daniel Horkheimer was spending his Saturday morning engaged in renovations at his residence in the St. Louis Place neighborhood of St. Louis, Missouri. The 29-year-old was working on his property, a testament to his commitment to neighborhood revitalization, when an unknown individual approached him.
