In the spring of 2018, the life of a young Memphis man with a passion for music was tragically cut short. Don Jermaine Whitaker, a 25-year-old Black man, died on March 1, 2018, from a gunshot wound sustained during an arranged meeting to purchase a firearm. The events that led to his untimely death unfolded in the 2700 block of Midland Avenue, where Whitaker and his girlfriend had gone with the intention of making a legal gun purchase.
