In the summer of 2018, tragedy struck in Nashville, Tennessee, when Frazier Bernard Lumpkins, a 66-year-old man, was fatally shot. The incident occurred on the evening of Sunday, July 15, 2018. Residents near the 1700 block of 23rd Avenue North reported hearing the sound of multiple gunshots around 8:00 p.m. In an alley in that area, Lumpkins was found, having been shot during what investigators believe was an argument.
For more than five years, the case of Frazier Bernard Lumpkins' death remained a cold case. However, dedicated work by investigators, including Cold Case Detective Andrew Davis and retired Detectives Stanley Truitt and Russ Thompson, continued. Their persistent investigation eventually led to a significant breakthrough in the case.
In September 2023, a Davidson County Grand Jury handed down an indictment for first-degree murder. The individual charged in the death of Frazier Bernard Lumpkins was 26-year-old Tijuan Vaughn. At the time of the indictment, Vaughn was incarcerated in a Kentucky detention center on an unrelated matter. He was subsequently transported to Nashville to face the murder charge.
