In the quiet town of Loretto, Tennessee, a domestic dispute on August 4, 2018, ended in a tragic murder-suicide. Albert Wayne Dotson, a 66-year-old male, was shot and killed by his stepson. The incident unfolded at a residence located at 29 Rebecca Road.
Responding to a call about a domestic altercation, deputies from the Lawrence County Sheriff's Department arrived to a grim scene. They discovered two deceased males and an injured female.
The investigation determined that 32-year-old James Netherton had shot his stepfather, Albert Wayne Dotson, and his mother, Lauren Dotson. After shooting his parents, Netherton then turned the gun on himself, taking his own life.
Lauren Dotson, though wounded by the gunfire, survived the initial attack and was airlifted from the scene for medical treatment. Her condition at the time was not publicly disclosed. The investigation into the incident was handled by the Lawrence County Sheriff's Department in conjunction with the 22nd Judicial District Attorney's Office. As the sole suspect in the murder of Albert Wayne Dotson took his own life, no arrests were made in connection with his death.
