In the early morning hours of a Sunday in St. Louis, Missouri, 26-year-old Kenneth Woods-Bey was a passenger in a car, traveling with three other people. The group was on Interstate 70 when another vehicle suddenly pulled up alongside them. Without warning, shots were fired from the other car into the one carrying Woods-Bey and his companions.
The hail of bullets resulted in Woods-Bey being critically injured by a gunshot wound to the head. The other occupants of the vehicle, all in their 20s, were not harmed in the attack. The shooting prompted an emergency response, and Woods-Bey was rushed to a local hospital in a desperate attempt to save his life.
Despite the efforts of medical personnel, Kenneth Woods-Bey succumbed to his injuries and passed away on the following Wednesday. The motive for the shooting remained unclear in the immediate aftermath of the incident. Law enforcement officials began an investigation into the homicide but did not have a description of the shooter or shooters, nor of the vehicle they were driving.
