In March of 2019, the life of 50-year-old Jeffery Steven White, a male resident of Savannah, Tennessee, was cut short when his body was discovered outside his home on Young Lane. An investigation into his death was promptly launched by the Savannah Police Department, the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, and the 24th District Attorney General's Office. The investigation would soon reveal a sinister plot that led to his untimely demise.
Authorities determined that Jeffery White had been shot multiple times, with gunshot wounds found in his back and the back of his head. The investigation quickly pointed to two individuals as being responsible for his death: his wife, Elaina Michelle White, who was 38 at the time, and a 21-year-old man from Iuka, Mississippi, named Christopher Mailhot. The nature of their relationship was not immediately made clear, but text messages discovered on Mailhot's phone indicated that he and Elaina White had conspired to kill her husband.
Within a day of the discovery of Jeffery White's body, both Christopher Mailhot and Elaina Michelle White were taken into custody. Mailhot was charged with first-degree murder and conspiracy to commit first-degree murder. During questioning by TBI agents, he admitted to shooting Jeffery Steven White. Elaina White faced charges of criminal responsibility for first-degree murder and conspiracy to commit first-degree murder, with authorities stating that she had solicited, directed, or aided Mailhot in the killing of her husband. Both suspects were booked into the Hardin County Correctional Facility, each with a bond set at $2 million.
