In the spring of 2019, an argument in North Knoxville tragically cut short the life of Jerry Dean Holt Sr. a 40-year-old male. On the evening of April 30th, Knoxville Police responded to a shooting incident at 311 North Broadway just after 5 p.m. There they discovered Holt suffering from a gunshot wound. He was rushed to the UT Medical Center, but his injuries proved fatal, and he died later that day.
Investigators determined that Holt had been involved in an argument with another man,
who then pulled out a gun and shot him. The shooter fled the scene immediately after the incident, sparking a police search. A few days later, on a Friday, the Knoxville Police Department arrested 30-year-old Gerald Tyshawn Henry in connection with the fatal shooting. He was taken to the violent crimes unit for questioning before being booked into the Knox County Detention Facility.
Following the arrest, the case proceeded through the legal system. Henry was initially charged with second-degree murder for his alleged role in Holt's death. In June of 2019, a Knox County grand jury indicted Gerald Tyshawn Henry on charges that included second-degree murder and unlawful possession of a weapon.
