In the Whitehaven neighborhood of Memphis, Tennessee, the life of 16-year-old Jaylen 'Jay Jay' Smith was tragically cut short on the afternoon of March 13, 2020. Smith, a male student at Hillcrest High School, was walking with another person on Hillview Road when a car approached them. A man inside the vehicle, later identified as Justin Nichols, opened fire, striking Smith.
