Steven Richard Goggans was an 18-year-old from Memphis, Tennessee, remembered by his loved ones as a kind and gentle person. Born on March 13, 2002, the young White/Caucasian male was just beginning his adult life when it was violently cut short.
On the evening of May 6, 2020, Steven was killed in an incident of gun violence in East Memphis. The attack was a devastating event that claimed more than one young life. Another teenager, 15-year-old Tyerell Dyshaun Jones, was also killed.
Two other people were injured in the shooting but survived.
In the months that followed the double homicide, authorities worked to find those responsible. By the fall of that year, the case was highlighted as part of a broader appeal for public assistance. In October 2020, federal and local officials announced a reward of up to $50,000 for information in connection with the unsolved killings of eight children in Memphis, a group of cases that included Steven's.
As of the reward announcement in October 2020, no arrests had been made public in the case. The shooting deaths of Steven Goggans and Tyerell Jones remain unsolved.
