In the quiet early morning hours of November 17, 2020, 10-year-old Lillyhanna Davis, a white female, was asleep on the couch in her family’s home on Blevins Road in a community near Elizabethton, Tennessee. A fifth-grade student at Central Elementary School, she was, like any child her age, filled with dreams and excitement for the future. Tragically, her life was cut short when a stray bullet from a drive-by shooting pierced through the wall of her home and struck her in the head. She was rushed to a local hospital but succumbed to her injuries.
The investigation into the senseless act of violence quickly identified three suspects: Jediah Shane Glover, Jason Bryan Barber II, and Zachary Scott Scalf. Authorities determined that the shooting was an act of retaliation for a previous incident that had occurred on October 31. In their misguided quest for revenge, the three men fired 21 rounds into the residence, tragically ending the life of an innocent child caught in the crossfire. The Carter County Sheriff's Office, along with the Washington County Sheriff's Department, worked swiftly to apprehend the individuals responsible.
Following their arrests, Glover, Barber, and Scalf were charged with first-degree murder, criminal conspiracy, aggravated assault, reckless endangerment, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a dangerous felony. The community, shocked and saddened by the loss of a vibrant young life, rallied around Lillyhanna's grieving family. In March 2022, the legal proceedings came to a conclusion as the three men accepted plea bargains. Jediah Glover and Jason Barber pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and were each sentenced to 40 years in prison. Zachary Scalf pleaded guilty to facilitation of second-degree murder and received a 15-year prison sentence.
