In Union City, Tennessee, on a Saturday night in early April, a family gathering turned into a scene of violence and loss. On the evening of April 3, 2021, shots rang out at the Eastgate Apartments. When the chaos subsided, 25-year-old Marcus Taylor, a male resident of Union City, was found suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was rushed to Baptist Memorial Hospital in a private vehicle, but his injuries proved to be fatal, and he was pronounced dead by emergency personnel at 10:52

The Union City Police Department’s investigation into the shooting pointed to a startling conclusion: the alleged perpetrator was a member of Taylor's own family. Investigators determined that Taylor’s 23-year-old cousin, Keyshaun Townsend, also of Union City, was the one who had shot him multiple times. The motive behind the tragic altercation was not immediately made public.
Following the investigation, Keyshaun Townsend was taken into custody and lodged in the Obion County Jail. He was formally charged with second-degree murder in connection with the death of his cousin, Marcus Taylor. The community was left to grapple with the sudden and violent death of a young man at the hands of a relative.
