On July 7, 2021, Madison Alescya Jones, a 10-year-old African American girl from Memphis, Tennessee, was tragically killed in an accidental shooting. The incident occurred during a birthday party at an apartment on Nash Drive in southeast Shelby County. Madison and four other children had been left unsupervised in the apartment when one of the children discovered a loaded firearm in a kitchen drawer. While handling the weapon, it discharged, fatally wounding Madison.
