On the night of January 8, 2022, Eric Lesure, a 44-year-old African American man from Memphis, Tennessee, was driving on Interstate 240 with his friend, Jonathan Fullerton. The two were on their way to a party shortly after midnight when their vehicle was fired upon from behind. The gunfire caused their car to crash, and both Mr. Lesure and Mr. Fullerton were ejected from the vehicle. They both succumbed to their injuries at the scene of the incident.
