On August 1, 2022, 20-year-old Javion Scruggs, an African American male, was fatally shot in the parking lot of a motel located on Wallace Road in Nashville, Tennessee. According to the Metro Nashville Police Department, Scruggs had just exited a motel room and was walking across the parking lot when an unidentified man approached him from behind and fired multiple shots.
