In a wooded area in Antioch, Tennessee, on August 22, 2022, the life of 13-year-old Abiel Euceda was tragically cut short. The young male was with a 16-year-old acquaintance, Misael Juarez-Nunez, near Benzing Road when the fatal incident occurred. What began as two teenagers handling a firearm ended in a devastating single gunshot.
Initially, authorities investigated the claim that the shooting was accidental. The 16-year-old remained at the scene after the shooting.
However, as the investigation by Homicide Unit detectives progressed, a clearer picture of the events began to form. During an interview with law enforcement, Misael Juarez-Nunez admitted to shooting Abiel while they were playing with the loaded handgun.
Following his admission, Juarez-Nunez was charged with criminal homicide in connection with Abiel Euceda's death. The case was then set to proceed through the juvenile court system. The community, particularly those at Opportunity Academy where Abiel was a student, was left to mourn the loss of a bright and lively young boy whose absence created a significant void.
