On a Thursday afternoon in Knoxville, Tennessee, gunfire shattered the quiet of a residential street, leaving a young man's life cut short. The incident unfolded on October 13, 2022, in the 2500 block of Parkview Avenue. Twenty-year-old Stephen Javon Lundy was on the porch of a home with a 20-year-old female friend, Kamya Myers, when one or more unidentified individuals opened fire upon them.
Both Lundy and Myers were struck by the gunfire.
In a tragic turn of events, an 88-year-old neighbor, Ralph Moore, who was inside his own home a couple of houses away, was also hit by a stray bullet. Emergency services were quickly dispatched to the scene, and all three victims were transported to the UT Medical Center for treatment. Despite the efforts of medical personnel, Stephen Lundy succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the hospital. Myers and Moore were treated for what were believed to be non-life-threatening injuries.
Investigators with the Knoxville Police Department began an immediate and thorough investigation into the shooting. While the suspect or suspects remained at large, authorities stated that they did not believe the shooting was a random act of violence. They suspected it might be connected to a series of other recent shootings that had occurred in the city, suggesting a possible ongoing conflict.
In the immediate aftermath, a police pursuit of a vehicle took place, leading to the detention of two men, 27-year-old Gary Reagan and 22-year-old Deshawn Wyrick. A search of their car uncovered drugs and three loaded pistols. However, after further investigation by the Violent Crimes Unit, it was determined that neither Reagan nor Wyrick was involved in the shooting that took the life of Stephen Lundy. The investigation into his death remains ongoing, and as of late 2022, no arrests had been made and no suspects had been publicly identified in the fatal shooting.
