In the early evening of Thursday, February 1, 2024, a dispute between two teenagers in East Knoxville tragically escalated, leaving one young man dead. Eighteen-year-old Apollo Cannida was found suffering from at least one gunshot wound in an alley behind a mortuary near the intersection of North Hembree Street and Linden Avenue. First responders were called to the scene around 5:55 p.m.
and transported Cannida to a local hospital, but his injuries proved to be fatal, and he was pronounced dead.
The investigation into the shooting moved swiftly. Knoxville Police Department detectives quickly identified nineteen-year-old Makah Logan as the suspect. According to the preliminary investigation, it is believed that Cannida and Logan were involved in a verbal argument that culminated in the fatal shooting. After the incident, Logan reportedly fled the scene.
Later that same evening, at approximately 10:50 p.m., members of the KPD Community Engagement Response Team located and arrested Makah Logan at a residence on Kirkwood Street. He was taken into custody without incident. Following his arrest, Logan was charged with first-degree murder in connection with the death of Apollo Cannida. The case is now proceeding through the criminal justice system.
