Special Policeman T. Edgar Rice, aged 42, was shot and killed on August 12, 1911, while investigating the sounds of gunfire near the Worth Brothers Steel Mill in Coatesville, Pennsylvania. Rice, who was a white male, was attempting to arrest a steel company worker who had become drunk and fired several shots as a warning to other men as he attempted to get home.
