Aiden Paiz, a 15-year-old male of Hispanic ethnicity from Kunkletown, PA, tragically lost his life on November 22, 2020, in Effort, PA. He was fatally shot during what state police believe was a botched drug deal that turned into an armed robbery. Paiz was sitting in a car with two other teenagers when the incident occurred. The 17-year-old in the car was also shot but survived, while a 13-year-old in the car was unharmed.
Following the incident, three suspects were arrested and charged
with homicide. The suspects, identified as 18-year-olds Justin Lemont and Anthony Mitchell, and 15-year-old Michael Demuro-Correll, were taken into custody shortly after the shooting. The investigation revealed that the suspects attempted to rob Paiz during the drug deal, which led to the fatal shooting.
The community was deeply affected by the loss of Paiz, who was remembered as a friendly and likeable individual involved in the anti-bullying committee and trying out for the basketball team at Pleasant Valley High School. A candlelight vigil was held in his memory, attended by family, friends, and classmates who shared fond memories of him.

Anthony Mitchell, one of the 18-year-old suspects, was sentenced to up to 77 years in prison for his role in the fatal robbery. The other two suspects also faced homicide charges and were held accountable for their actions.
