Joseph Albert "Jock" Yablonski, a 59-year-old male of Polish-American ethnicity, was a prominent labor leader and candidate for the presidency of the United Mine Workers of America . He lived in Clarksville, Pennsylvania. Yablonski was known for his efforts to reform the UMWA and challenge the incumbent president, W.A. "Tony" Boyle, whom he accused of corruption and nepotism.
