On December 10, 1978, 39-year-old Court Officer Ernest L. Lang Jr., a member of the Delaware County Bureau of Park Police and Fire Safety in Chester, Pennsylvania, was fatally shot while intervening in an armed robbery at a bar located at 2213 West 3rd Street. Officer Lang, who had served with the department for three years, was off-duty at the time of the incident.
