Robert Uzi Dungee, a 33-year-old man from Chester, PA, was tragically shot and killed on May 5, 2022. The incident occurred on the 1100 block of Hyatt Street, and Dungee was later found dead near the intersection of 14th and Potter streets, close to Widener University's campus. He was transported to Crozer-Chester Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead from multiple gunshot wounds.
The suspect in the case, Jihad Perry, a 43-year-old Chester resident, was arrested on May 16, 2022,
by the U.S. Marshal’s Fugitive Task Force in Delaware. Perry was charged with criminal homicide and related offenses. During the preliminary hearing, a first-degree murder charge was dismissed, but Perry was held for trial on third-degree murder and firearms charges. A witness testified that Perry had been harassing her and Dungee, leading up to the shooting.
In September 2023, Perry pled guilty to involuntary manslaughter and firearms offenses. He was sentenced to 7 to 20 years in state prison. During the hearing, Perry apologized and expressed hope for forgiveness from Dungee's family.
