On January 30, 2002, Dennis Joseph McNamara, a 43-year-old male police officer of Irish-American ethnicity, was shot and killed while investigating a suspicious vehicle in Upper Darby, Pennsylvania. Officer McNamara, who was a veteran of the Upper Darby Township Police Department and a U.S. Army Reserve sergeant, was fatally shot in the head by a handgun by a member of a motorcycle gang.
