There were no signs of a forced entry, leading investigators to believe that Casasanto likely knew his assailant or assailants and had let them into his residence. Evidence at the scene indicated he was shot from behind as he walked towards his kitchen.
Casasanto's life was a volatile mix of alliances and rivalries. He was known to be a member of mob boss John Stanfa's crew, which placed him in direct opposition to the faction led by 'Skinny Joey' Merlino.
