Cassel, who was 42 years old, shot Jacinda once with a semi-automatic handgun and then knelt next to her body. When police arrived at the scene, Cassel turned the gun on himself, resulting in both deaths. The incident was ruled a murder-suicide, and it was determined to be a case of domestic violence.
