On a cold Friday night in January of 2016, a party on the seventh floor of the Holiday Inn Express in Green Tree, a suburb of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, turned deadly. Inside one of the rooms, 18-year-old Martell Benton-Bridgett was shot multiple times in the upper body. The shooting was reported to the authorities at approximately 11 p.m. on January 15th.
Emergency services arrived at the hotel and transported Benton-Bridgett to a local hospital, but his injuries proved to be fatal.
The Allegheny County Medical Examiner's Office later confirmed that the cause of death was gunshot wounds to the chest. Homicide investigators from the county police department began an immediate inquiry into the young man's death. They determined that a party had been taking place in the room where the shooting occurred. Several individuals who were in attendance were detained and questioned by law enforcement in the initial hours of the investigation.
Despite the questioning of multiple party-goers, a clear motive for the shooting did not immediately emerge. The investigation into the death of Martell Benton-Bridgett remained active, with police seeking any information from the public that could lead to an understanding of the events that transpired that night. As of late 2020, there have been no public announcements regarding any arrests or the identification of any specific suspects in the homicide case.
