Zenas Powell, a 14-year-old boy from Chester, Pennsylvania, tragically lost his life on May 21, 2016. Zenas was an innocent bystander caught in a hail of gunfire on the 1100 block of Pine Lane in Chester. He was outside a corner store when he was struck by bullets, along with two other victims, including his cousin, Quamar Powell, and Janene Shipley, a 32-year-old woman.
Zenas was set to graduate eighth grade from Chester Community Charter School, and his classmates honored him posthumously at the graduation ceremony.
Despite the tragic circumstances, Chester police have not made any arrests in connection with Zenas's death. The investigation remains open, and the family has urged anyone with information to come forward. The City of Chester and the managing company of Chester Community Charter School have offered a combined $10,000 reward for information leading to an arrest.
Zenas's death was Chester's 11th homicide of the year, highlighting the ongoing violence in the city. His family and community continue to mourn his loss and seek justice for his untimely death.
