The incident occurred on a Friday evening at his family's home in Allegheny Township, a suburb of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, while he was in the backyard with his father.
Nicholas and his father were engaged in target shooting when the unfortunate event took place.
According to the Allegheny Township police chief, Nicholas's father had turned to reset a target. It was during this moment that Nicholas attempted to reload a small caliber pistol. Tragically, the firearm discharged, and the bullet struck him in the head. His parents were by his side immediately, attempting to provide aid. He was then airlifted to UPMC Presbyterian Hospital for medical attention.
Despite the efforts of medical professionals, Nicholas succumbed to his injuries two days later. The authorities investigated the incident and concluded that it was a heartbreaking accident. There were no suspects or arrests made in connection with his death.
Nicholas, born on November 3, 2000, was a student at Kiski Area High School, where he was about to enter his sophomore year. He was a dedicated and valued member of the school's marching band, where he played the mellophone and the French horn. Friends and classmates remembered him as a polite, hardworking, and lovable young man who was passionate about music. In the wake of his passing, the Kiski Area band community came together to raise funds to commission a new piece of music in his memory, a lasting tribute to a life lost far too soon.
