Khayyan Fruster Jr., a 28-year-old Black male, tragically lost his life on January 13, 2017, in Philadelphia, PA. He was shot in the back of the head while waiting to be picked up for work outside his home on the 6600 block of Hegerman Street. Fruster worked at A Bob’s Towing and was preparing to buy his own home before his untimely death. He was a father of two young children, aged 8 and 11.
The incident occurred around 8:15 p.m.
when an unidentified gunman approached Fruster as he entered his coworker's tow truck. The gunman opened fire and fled the scene, leaving Fruster fatally wounded and his coworker critically injured. Fruster was taken to Hahnemann Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries at 10:26 p.m. His coworker was transported to Aria-Torresdale Hospital in critical condition.
Despite extensive investigations, no arrests were made immediately following the shooting. However, on October 12, 2020, Philadelphia Police arrested a suspect in connection with Fruster's murder. The suspect was charged with murder and related offenses, and the case is pending trial.
The community and Fruster's family have been vocal about seeking justice for his death. His best friend, Job Henri, shared that Fruster had aspirations of becoming a Philadelphia Police Officer, driven by a desire to protect and serve. Family and friends remember him as a hardworking individual with no known enemies.
The investigation into Khayyan Fruster Jr.'s murder remains ongoing, with authorities continuing to search for justice for the young father and dedicated worker.
