Sean Maschal, a 33-year-old man from Mount Carmel, Pennsylvania, tragically died on September 13, 2017. He was found shot in the head in a wooded area along Route 54 in Mount Carmel Township. Maschal's death shocked the community, as he was known for his friendly and outgoing nature. His mother, Catherine Langley, described him as someone who could make anyone laugh and noted that he was a fantastic father to his young daughter.
Following his death, an investigation was launched to
determine the circumstances surrounding the murder. State police discovered that Maschal had been shot in the back of the head while inside an SUV. His body was then dumped in the woods. Brian Heffner, a 37-year-old man from Coal Township, was later charged with homicide and abuse of a corpse in connection with Maschal's death. According to arrest papers, Heffner shot Maschal and then disposed of his body.
In addition to Heffner's arrest, Maschal's sister, Taylor Glassic, was also implicated in the investigation. Although she was arrested on unrelated drug charges, a search warrant suggested that she and three others—David Swatsky, Jamie McCabe, and David Brown—may have conspired to rob Maschal, which led to his death. However, none of these individuals have been formally charged with Maschal's murder.
The community and Maschal's family continue to seek justice for his untimely death. His mother expressed hope that the police would bring those responsible to justice, emphasizing how much she loved her son and how many people adored him. The case remains an ongoing investigation, with authorities working to uncover the full extent of the events leading to Sean Maschal's tragic demise.
