In the early morning hours of Sunday, November 26, 2017, in Washington, Pennsylvania, a burst of gunfire shattered the quiet of the Maple Terrace housing complex. When emergency crews arrived at the scene just before 3 a.m., they discovered two men suffering from gunshot wounds. One of the victims was 25-year-old Travis Nick Larson, a resident of Washington. He was rushed to Washington Hospital but was pronounced dead shortly before 4 a.m. The second victim, later identified as 24-year-old Shaquore Yarbrough, also from Washington, was seriously injured and transported to a hospital in Pittsburgh for treatment.

Neighbors reported hearing an argument involving two men and a woman just before the shooting. They then heard several gunshots in rapid succession. The incident left the community on edge, with the shooter remaining at large. Washington City Police, with the assistance of the Pennsylvania State Police, immediately began an investigation into the homicide. Authorities did interview a person of interest in the days following the shooting, but that individual was subsequently released.

Travis Larson, a graduate of Trinity High School, worked as an electrician. He was a father to a son, Jeremiah, and was excitedly anticipating the birth of his daughter, Milan Nick Larson, with his fiancée, Tamara Heyman. His family described him as a loving and caring person whose life was cut short by a senseless act of violence, believing he was not the intended target of the bullet that killed him. As of September 2022, his case remained open and unsolved, with his family continuing to seek justice and keep his memory alive through community events.
