Daevion Raines, a 15-year-old African American male from Duquesne, Pennsylvania, was tragically killed on June 16, 2018. He was riding in a car with several other people when at least 15 shots were fired into the vehicle as it passed through Newford Alley. The car crashed into a telephone pole, and Daevion was found dead in the backseat with multiple gunshot wounds.
A 17-year-old who was driving the car at the time was also shot but survived and was taken to a local hospital in stable condition.
Despite the severity of the incident, no suspects have been arrested, and the investigation remains open. The Allegheny County Police have been actively investigating the case, but as of now, no one has been charged in connection with Daevion's death. The car had been reported stolen two days prior to the shooting, and police believe there were several other people in the car who fled the scene before authorities arrived.
Daevion's mother, Shanena Lewis, has been vocal about seeking justice for her son and has started a foundation in his name, "Daevion's Place of Resilience," to help support other kids in the community and prevent further violence. She continues to advocate for safety and support for children in Duquesne and surrounding areas.
The community has been deeply affected by Daevion's death, and his mother's efforts to create positive change in his memory have been recognized. Despite the tragedy, Shanena Lewis remains committed to ensuring that her son's legacy lives on through her work and the foundation she has established.
